Cherie Amour begeben sich auf eine “Spiritual Ascension”

 

Cherie Amour veröffentlichte ihr neues Album “Spiritual Ascension” am 04. November bei Rude Records/Equal Vision Records. Die Band hat sich übers Jahr durch eine Serie veröffentlichter Songs schon einen Hype bei den Fans und Kritikern aufbauen können. “Sin City”, “Letting Go”, and “Love’s Not Your Thing” (alle produziert von Alan Day von Four Year Strong) sind auch auf dem Album und beweisen das Cherie Amour ihren selbst beschriebenen “Nu-Punk” Sound perfektioniert haben.

In weniger als einer halben Stunde kommt Cherie Amour näher als menschlich möglich an den Titel ihres Debütalbums. Durch die Natur ihres aktuellen Phänomens, bei dem keiner sicher sein kann, dass es geschieht, während man lebt, hat die Band ihr musikalisches Äquivalent.  Die Band besteht aus Vocalist Trey Miller, Gitarristen Casey Reid und Brendan Willis und Schlagzeuger Ronnie Sherman.

 

 

“I want this album to bring more awareness to different elements of mental health and spirituality. Personally, I don’t really know what religion I ascribe to. I take elements from a lot of different things and then just mix it up, and that’s how I’m trying to present myself to the world. It’s bringing out my personal struggles and trying to figure out how I feel about, and how I view, everything. I went through all these different trials, and it made me the most refined version of Trey that I can be. But then right after we finished the album, I had some really hard times – so the second album is going to be crazy, too!”. – erklärt Miller

​Der spirituelle Aufstieg beginnt mit dem Song “Welcome”, einer 41 Sekunde langen Aufruhr von spektralen Lärm stellt das Album mit drei Fragen vor. Aber nicht nur irgendwelche Fragen, nein, mit drei großen Fragen: Warum sind wir hier? Wo sind wir hergekommen? Was passiert mit uns, wenn wir gestorben sind?

 

 

Von da an nimmt die Band aus Baltimore ihre Hörer auf der Suche nach Antworten tief in ihre Welt mit hinein. Diese haben sie nicht, weil keiner von uns die hat, aber da ist trotzdem eine tiefe persönliche Wahrheit, die durch das Beschäftigen mit den Fragen ans Licht kommt. Genau darum geht es in den 10 folgenden Songs, die auch das Trauma, die Erfahrungen und die Mentalität, die dazu geführt haben, reflektiert.

 

 

“It sucks, but I do think musicians need to suffer to write the music you want to hear. Like, who is in a great space where they want to write music that hits? Especially in the genre that we’re in, I feel like the music we write is intended for people who are going through some really deep challenges and hardships, and they need this to help them navigate that. So I feel like it makes us so much more relatable and able to connect with other people”. – ergänzt Reid

Obwohl es das erste lange Full-Length Album von Cherie Amour ist, ist es nicht das erste mal, dass die Jungs in der Lage waren, diese Verbindung zu schaffen. Selbst vor ihrer Debüt EP von letztem Jahr “Internal Discussions”, –  welche, wie dieses Album, von Four Year Strongs Alan Day aufgenommen und produziert wurde – haben die vier Mitglieder zusammen als One Life To Lead gespielt, aber fanden das ihr Name nicht ihrem entwickelten Musikstil passte.

 

 

“With the EP, we blindly trusted Alan, and it worked out. With this album, we were in the same room and so we were like ‘What can we get away with?!’ This picks up where Internal Discussion left off, but we also didn’t want to do what everybody expected us to do”. – Sherman

Und so nannten sie sich in Cherie Amour um, was viel besser zu ihrem selbstgebastelten Nu-Punk Outfit passt und ihr wahres Selbst gefunden. 

“It was amongst our goals to not try to prescribe to a certain genre. We wanted it to be all-encompassing so that you can get out of it what you want and need, and we felt that nu-punk was the best way to describe that simply”. – Allen
